The game itself is not fun, not great, and a real disappointment. The songs on the game are lousy choices for sining and singing as a duet. I purchased the SingStar bundle believing I was purchasing the game with wireless microphones. This makes it impossible to play with accuracy and no fun at all. I would recommend anyone looking for a fun karaoke type game, check out any of the others. It has an extreme latency with the microphones. There is the music video playing while you're singing which is cool, but distracting at the same time.
Thankfully I purchased this game bundle on Amazon from a seller who was offering it at an extremely low price. But they are not wireless. There are songs to download from online, but they cost nearly $2.00 each. So what you hear of your voice from the TV is several seconds later than the sound of the soundtrack. There are no staff lines for the notes you are to be singing. So I don't feel like I was ripped off too badly. I know American Idol is fun.
Not that you'd really want to use Singstar too much since the interface is clunky as heck. Not only does this game require a proprietary switch instead of simply using simple USB headsets like most modern music games. Just pick up Rock Band or Guitar/Band Hero instead. While co-op singing is allowed, the song setup is mis-mashed, and DRM locks down any songs you buy to be a one-time-only use for those files. Lose the PS3 harddrive, lose the PS3 hardware, or just plain upgrade or switch in some way, and you have to pay for every single song again. This works as a party game, but it's far too clunky for me to ever consider playing it. The music videos behind the lyrics are covered up by the interface, further adding to the 'just tacked on' approach the developers took to making this game.
This is a great game for the family, or when you have friends over socializing and you want to make it a karaoke night.
Also, even on the "easy" level, I find the speed of some of the songs still kind of fast. Most of the songs were from the 70s-90s.
I finally started testing it out this week. The songs on it are pretty decent.
I bought this about 2-3 months ago. However, when I went online to try to buy more songs, I would have expected there to be almost everything on the top 40s within the last couple of months; heck, or even from just the past year.
Although some of them seem a little dated now; they were recent when the product first came out a year ago. I will not fault the product because I bought it late.
Although it was great to have some of those songs, I would have expected them to have more stuff that was released within the last year. Also, there should be levels during the practice sessions.
I bought this after playing it at a friends house. I brought it with me to see my parents. The entire family got in on it. We had a great time for HOURS playing and competing to see who could get the best score.
